Michaelson & Co., a certified public accounting and consulting firm in Palm Beach County, has been chosen by the Bar Association's executive committee to tabulate the results of the Judicial Evaluation.

Shopping on the Net. Is it Safe?
Local CPA Firm Becomes Licensed in WebTrust Services

WEST PALM BEACH - Michaelson & Co., P.A., a certified public accounting and consulting firm, has become one of Florida's first qualified providers of the CPA WebTrust seal. A digital security certificate developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the WebTrust is expected to be the Internet's premier security seal. Unlike any other form of digital security, the AICPA requires an independent audit of a site's information protection controls, transaction integrity and business practices.

Although electronic commerce is estimated to reach $6.5 billion by the year 2000, market research cites lack of security as the number one barrier to on-line purchasing. Web watchers believe the CPA WebTrust seal's 78% public approval rating will increase users confidence in electronic commerce. Businesses requesting a WebTrust audit are banking on the AICPA's reputation to increase sales on their sites.

"Earning a CPA WebTrust seal is like earning the Good Housekeeping Seal", stated William Michaelson, company president.

"It tells potential customers that your site maintains the highest level of encryption security available and also meets the rigorous business standards set forth by the AICPA."

In an effort to ensure highest degree of integrity, the AICPA has set strict standards for both WebTrust businesses and qualified CPA providers. In addition to the initial audit, Web sites must be re-audited at least every three months and accountants are required to continue with AICPA educational training in order to retain their WebTrust licensure.
